Download & Restore
Download QuickStack volume, database, and system backups, and restore the QuickStack configuration.
This page covers how to get data back out of QuickStack backups. For configuration, see the individual backup guides.
Download a scheduled backup
Volume and database backups are stored in your S3 target. You can download them from inside QuickStack:
- Open Backups in the main menu.
- Find the schedule and open its backups detail dialog.
- Use the download icon on a backup row to download the archive.
You can also download a backup file from the S3 bucket directly with any S3 client.
Download a live volume
To snapshot the current contents of a running app's volume:
- Open the app in the Project Canvas and go to Settings → Storage.
- In the Volumes card, click the download icon (Download volume content).
- Confirm Download Volume Data and click Download.
The volume is packaged as a ZIP archive. This is a one-off export, not a scheduled backup. See File Browser for browsing a volume interactively.
Restore a volume or database
No in-UI restore for volume and database backups yet Volume and database backups can be downloaded, but QuickStack does not currently provide a button to restore them into a volume or database. Plan your recovery around the downloaded dump files.
Recovery options depend on the workload:
- Volumes: the backup is an archive of the volume contents. Use the built-in File Browser to upload the archive into the target volume and extract it there. The app is stopped while the volume is mounted, so start or redeploy it afterwards.
- PostgreSQL databases: the backup is a compressed
pg_dump. Restore it with QuickStack's built-in pgAdmin tool, which connects to the database pre-configured. - MariaDB / MySQL databases: the backup is a compressed
mariadb-dump. Import it with the built-in phpMyAdmin or DbGate tool. - MongoDB databases: the backup is a
mongodump. Restore it with the built-in DbGate tool.
Restore a system backup
The QuickStack configuration database can be restored from the UI. A system backup captures projects, users, app definitions, and settings.
- Go to Settings → Platform → Storage & Backups.
- Click View & Restore Backups.
- Under Upload and Restore Backup, select a
.tar.gzor.tgzsystem backup file. - Confirm Restore System Backup by clicking Restore Backup.
Restoring replaces all configuration A system restore replaces the entire QuickStack configuration — projects, users, environment variables, and settings. Download a fresh system backup before restoring, and restart QuickStack afterwards as prompted. See System Backups for the full warning.
Recovery checklist
- Keep at least one recent system backup outside the cluster.
- Configure volume and database backup schedules for critical workloads.
- Periodically download a backup and verify that it opens and restores on a non-production instance.
